Don't let the winter weather deter you from a trip to the coast. You need to bring the right outerwear — warm jackets, rain coats, pants and boots, gloves, hats and several changes of clothing — but getting cozy after a windy, cold walk is half the fun. With vast beaches for your kids to explore, and most importantly, time to unplug and enjoy togetherness, you'll have a guaranteed break from your usual routine.
Here's a look at two family getaway spots — Iron Springs Resort and Seabrook. Although a mere 4 miles apart, they offer very different settings. The former provides a rustic, charming, and secluded environment, while the latter is a newly constructed "town" centered on a communal family-friendly experience. Both require a short walk to the beach, so if you have little ones along be sure to bring a carrier.
Iron Springs Resort is newly remodeled and smells deliciously of cedar.
Accommodations:
This resort offers 25 semi-private cabins on a bluff overlooking the north end of Copalis Beach. The recently renovated cabins smell like yummy cedar, and offer a great view of the ocean.
Activities:
You can enjoy the fresh sea air from the deck, explore the beach and the forest trails that are part of the resort, and relax in front of a cozy fire. The vast beach is only a short walk from the cabins, and the landscape is a treasure trove of fun for kids.
Don't forget the dog! Iron Springs is pooch friendly, so don't leave your furriest family member home!

The burgeoning beach town of Seabrook is an inviting place, encouraging a more communal experience. It's great for a trip with multiple families traveling together. Seabrook doesn't have the same secluded feel as Iron Springs Resort, but they offer other features that are big pluses for families — including an indoor pool and spa, fitness center, two restaurants, a bakery, ice-cream shop and small grocery store. You'll also find two playgrounds, bike rentals, and a paint-your-own-pottery place.
