February is here and love is in the air! This week, celebrate spring on the horizon and winter coming to an end. Start your month with a PopUp Story Walk through the park, a free museum visit, a family magic show or a Haiku writing workshop!

 

Monday, February 3

PopUp Story Walk. PopUp StoryWalk invites you to take a walk in the park, through the woods, and enjoy an illustrated children's story on the way, exploring more pages of the story as the walk continues. This program promotes literacy, art appreciation, and health. Open from dawn to dusk through Sun. Bothell Landing Park, Bothell. 

Evening Pajamarama Storytime. Bring your kids to the library to have their bedtime stories read to them! Enjoy rhymes, stories, crafts, and more. 6:45 to 7:30 p.m. Shoreline Library, Shoreline. 

 

Tuesday, February 4

U Village Playdays. A different store hosts crafts, activities, and playtime each week. This Tuesday, check out the Kumon store to see what fun events are in store for you and your preschooler. Tuesdays at 10 a.m. University Village, Seattle. 

Play Space. A highly interactive drop in play time, where motor skills and social skills can be developed for children ages 1-5. Ride scooters, play with bouncy toys, and more. 2:45 to 10:15 p.m. Ravenna-Eckstein Community Center, Seattle. 

 

Wednesday, February 5

Storybook Corner at Island Books. A weekly children’s storytime in Mercer Island. Also check out their February recommendations for children’s books about love and kindness HERE. 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Island Books, Mercer Island. 

Valentine Card Making. Make homemade cards for loved ones at a toy store after school today! 3 to 5 p.m. Clover Toys (Ballard), Seattle. 

 

Thursday, February 6

Free First Thursdays at the Museums. SAM, MOHAI, Burke, KiDiMu, Wing Luke, the Conservatory and more offer free admission today. Take advantage and see a couple! Check our calendar for all of the listings. 

CultureFest International Expo. Enjoy arts and crafts, games, and hands-on activities with international students and volunteers representing a variety of cultures. 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Husky Union Building Ballroom (University of Washington Campus), Seattle. 

Little Makers Storytime. Learn about science each week through play, stories, and fun experiments. Best for children ages 3-5. 3 to 4 p.m. Broadview Branch Library, Seattle. 

Late Play Date. Drop in any time this evening for free admission and themed activities geared toward kids ages 3-12 and their families. 6 to 8 p.m. White River Valley Museum, Auburn. 

 

Friday, February 7

Wondrous Woodpeckers. Learn everything you ever wanted to know about woodpeckers, and how to help them thrive in their local habitats. Take a ranger-led walk for some hands-on learning, and maybe even spot some real woodpeckers! 10 to 11 a.m. Lake Hills Greenbelt Park, Bellevue. 

Small Frye Storytelling + Art. In partnership with Seattle Children’s Theater, the Frye invites little ones to enjoy a play and some art making on the first Friday of the month. Register early, as spots fill up quickly. 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Frye Art Museum, First Hill. 

Coyote Moon. For story time at Lewis Creek Park today, join Coyote on a midnight adventure to find food to feed her family. Two sessions today; 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Lewis Creek Park Visitor Center, Bellevue. 

Caspar Babypants. Also known as Chris Ballew, the lead singer and co-founder of the Presidents of the United States of America, Caspar Babypants sings danceable, whimsical songs. 5 to 6 p.m. Northpoint Coop, Tacoma. 

 

Saturday, February 8

Seattle Asian Art Museum Grand Re-Opening. (Update: This event is sold out. Here's how you can plan a trip soon.) This event is not to be missed! After a 2-year renovation, Seattle’s Asian Art Museum is free to the public this weekend. Visit the expanded gallery and educational spaces, new outdoor lobby that connects to Volunteer Park, and more. Today and Sun. from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Seattle Asian Art Museum, Seattle.

International District Lunar New Year Celebration. A lion dance, an all-ages cultural costume contest, a food walk featuring local international restaurants, and more! 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Chinatown-International District, Seattle. 

Asia Pacific New Year Celebration. Food, crafts, live entertainment and more, from a variety of Asian and Pacific Island countries. This year's featured country is Vietnam. 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall, Tacoma. 

Collage Workshop. Need a place to display all of those family photos? Print some out and bring them to this workshop, where you will create and take home a collage that reminds you of family. Best for ages 5-10. 1 to 2 p.m. Woodinville Library, Woodinville. 

Family Magic Show. Magician Raymond performs live at the Center House, showcasing comedy magic, story telling, and fun illusions. There will audience participation, too, and afterward kids can learn a trick. Two shows today; 1 and 2:30 p.m. Seattle Center House Theater (Lower Queen Anne), Seattle. 

Haiku Writing Workshop. Join naturalist and Seattle's Civic Poet, Jourdan Keith, on a writing adventure. Pause, slow down to observe nature, and explore the area while learning to write Haikus. Dress warm and wear sturdy shoes. Best for ages 7 and older. Pre-register. 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. Cedar River Watershed Education Center, North Bend. 

U Heights Second Saturday Spectacular. Family entertainment for all ages! See musicians, reptiles, clowns, storytellers and more (each month is a surprise!). 3 to 4 p.m. U Heights Auditorium (University District), Seattle. 

Evening Beach Walk. Explore a West Seattle beach at low tide with Seattle Aquarium beach naturalists at night! Drop in and see what creatures reside in the area on this exciting walk. 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. Charles Richey Sr. Viewpoint, West Seattle. 

 

Sunday, February 9

Worldwide Bird Science Project. Be apart of this science project and learn about local birds. Practice data collections and use your skills to be involved in future bird counts! Then, do a nature craft. Best for ages 5-12. 1:30 to 3 p.m. Newport Library, Bellevue. 

Winter Discover Walk. A one-mile walk in the wintertime, filled with activities. Use a microscope to get an up-close look at nature, and a Washershed Naturalist will be there to guide and answer questions. 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Cedar River Watershed Education Center, North Bend. 

Community Fun Skate. Grab your friends and family and your skates and head to Magnuson for some free, old fashioned roller skating! A great way to get some exercise and end your week on a fun and healthy note. 2 to 5 p.m. Magnuson Community Center, Seattle.
