Don't let the Shakespearean title intimidate you.
Pacific Northwest Ballet's “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” is a "funny, colorful, lovely" show that will appeal to all ages.
"It's just about the family-friendliest ballet we have besides 'Nutcracker,'" says Gary Tucker, media relations manager for PNB.
He cites the short running time (two hours and 15 minutes, including the intermission), the fact that it features lots of PNB School students and that the three matinees ("dress-up" matinees, that is) include crafts-table activities and mini-dance classes — and the Music Center Northwest’s popular Instrument Petting Zoo will be there one day, too.
"A Midsummer Night's Dream," Shakespeare’s comic tale of romantic confusion, follows the quarrels of the King and Queen of the Fairies, and the mayhem of mismatched lovers but resolves with a beautiful wedding scene that opens with Mendelssohn’s familiar and triumphant "Wedding March."
