Seattle’s Child is proud to partner with the state Department of Children, Youth and Families Strengthening Families Washington to honor outstanding caregivers doing important work on behalf of children. Throughout February, we’ll introduce you to Unsung Heroes from around the state. Enjoy their stories.
Melissa Moran, KentÂ
Melissa Moran represents what it truly means to be a dedicated and loving parent and caregiver. They consistently put their children’s needs first while encouraging independence, confidence and kindness. Whether helping with school projects, attending every event or just listening, they approach parenting with patience, warmth and unwavering support.
Beyond their own family, Melissa is the dedicated owner of a home daycare and preschool. She is an active and positive force in our community. They volunteer their time, uplift other families and always look for ways to make things better for children and parents alike.
Melissa balances the many challenges of parenting with grace and strength. Her eldest daughter, who is now 22 years old, was born with holes in her heart. She endured the stress and heartache of three open-heart surgeries and 18 years of long hospital stays, procedures and surgeries. I have never met a stronger mother and caregiver.
I wholeheartedly nominate Melissa Moran for this well-deserved recognition. Her dedication and love make a lasting difference in the lives of everyone who’s lucky enough to know her.
