Local youth and families are encouraged to participate in the new project-sharing web site earthbongo, which uses social media as a tool to encourage volunteerism. Based in Seattle, and the brainchild of former eBay executive Barry Boone, the web site aims at giving users online tools to engage in their communities locally and globally.
On earthbongo.com, users can create a new project or join an existing one, then invite friends to sign up and work on the same project. After the work has been completed, earthbongo.com will compile data to help measure the success of the event. A key component of the site is its integration with Facebook and Twitter.
