Libraries Offer Free Passes for Kid-Friendly South Sound Museums

With a Pierce County Library card, Puyallup Public Library card, or Tacoma Public Library card, people may now check out free passes to visit four area museums: the Children’s Museum of Tacoma, Museum of Glass, Tacoma Art Museum or Washington State History Museum.

Here are the details:

  • Children’s Museum of Tacoma – Play Pass. Children test their independence and gain self-confidence through the arts, sciences and creative play, and adults find tools to understand and support children’s learning. Pass holders get up to four free regular admissions. Of note: in January 2012, the Children’s Museum of Tacoma is opening in a new location and people will be admitted with Pay As You Will, which will allow individuals to pay what they can during a visit. Therefore, the Play Pass will no longer be needed. The libraries will no longer check them out after Dec. 19, when the museum closes to prepare for its move.
  • Museum of Glass – Glass Pass. This new pass is for all ages and will let people watch artists create masterpieces from molten glass and explore contemporary glass art exhibitions. Pass holders get free admission for up to two adults and unlimited family members younger than 18.
  • Tacoma Art Museum – Art Access Pass. Visitors discover paintings, prints, sculptures and art-making activities. Pass holders get up to four free regular admissions.
  • Washington State History Museum – History Pass. Participants learn about the state’s unique people and places through interactive exhibits, theatrical storytelling, high-tech displays and dramatic artifacts. Pass holders get free admission for up to two adults and unlimited family members younger than 18.

People may check out the museum passes, available on a first-come, first-served basis, for three weeks at any Pierce County Library. To learn more about the free pass program, visit the Pierce County Library website.
