He may be officially retired, but J.P. Patches (otherwise known as Edmonds resident Chris Wedes) has loaned his name to a new cause: supporting efforts of the Edmonds-based MS Helping Hands “Donor Closet,” which collects new or cleaned and gently-used stuffed animals to donate to various children’s organizations.
So far the Donor Closet has collected over 95,000 animals and sent them to children who were victims of recent U.S. hurricanes and floods. Another 25,000 or so were distributed to local charities and churches for Easter baskets and Christmas presents.
The new “J.P.’s Campaign for Kids” recently kicked off with a donation of 2,000 Beanie Babies from the Shoreline Fire Department. The public can drop off donations at the Donor Closet, located at 409 Howell Way in Edmonds, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
