Kids always seem to be drawn to firefighters and their vehicles, and that’s probably why Fire Day is always such a popular springtime event in Seattle.
It’s virtual (again) this year, but it will still be a lot of fun!
Kids don’t get to meet firefighters in person this, but they will be online.
Sponsored by the Museum of History and Industry (MOHAI) and the Seattle Fire Department, this year’s event will stream live from the Seattle Fire Boat Leschi and Fire Station No. 5 from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday (June 5) on the Seattle Fire Department’s Facebook page.
The family-friendly event commemorates the 132nd anniversary of the Great Seattle Fire, which destroyed the heart of the city in 1889 but also led to the creation of the city’s modern professional firefighting force.
Activities will include a chance to explore the fire boat, make crafts, have a Q&A with firefighters, learn about careers and training in fire and life safety and listen to Fire Chief Harold Scoggins’ rousing rendition of the classic children’s fire safety story, “No Dragons for Tea.”
Many activities will take place in both English and Spanish.
The grand finale will feature the fire boat in all its spectacular glory.
