In conjunction with its 10-year anniversary, Cupcake Royale recently opened a new bakery in the heart of Queen Anne, located on the corner of Crockett Street where the Farmer's Market takes place. As well, Cupcake Royale will launch new at-home baking kits this week – for purchase in cafés or online. These are the latest additions to the Royale family and the local chain's success.
Customers entering the pink and white shop can expect all of the things the crown icon has come to stand for: children eyeballing freshly frosted cupcakes, Stumptown coffee roasting behind the counter and the smell of rising dough seeping from the "bakeshop."

However, Cupcake Royale is taking the motto of "what Grandma would have done" to a whole new level. The Queen Anne bakery has added various pastries to the menu, such as scones, cookies and muffins.
The brains behind the business have also concocted at-home baking kits, which launch this week. The Vanilla Cake Cupcaking Mix and Buttercream Frosting by the pint is available for purchase online and in stores starting Nov. 28. The Cupcaking Kit, complete with cake mix, frosting, sprinkles and a commemorative pine box, will be available for purchase starting Dec. 5.
"Our mission from day one is to create joyful experiences," said Jody Hall, founder of Cupcake Royale, which opened in 2003 as Seattle's first cupcake bakery and café. In fact, it was the nation's first cupcake bakery to open outside of New York City.

Don't expect the kit to be like standard cake mix boxes at the grocery store – full of preservatives. Hall wants the kit to demonstrate the difference people can taste when quality, fresh ingredients are used – just like the cupcakes they bake daily. And those pints of Royale frosting? Whether the frosting makes it onto the cupcake or not is up to the baker.
Cupcake Royale strives toward perfecting the science of baking and advocating for the use of natural, locally-sourced ingredients. Between the organic sugars, the non-GMO oil and the 500 pounds of butter used weekly to create the goods and frosting, they certainly keep dessert lovers coming back for more.
