Being able to get away for the day is a luxury, and sometimes the best Mother's Day memories are made during a low-key weekend spent hanging around the house with your kids. But if you can manage to get away for the day or overnight, check out our budget and luxe picks for where to hit the spa, eat out, and shop on Mother's Day weekend.

Yes, please.
Spa
Schmancy: It smells like a magical forest at The Spa at Salish Lodge. If you want to go all in, the spa next to Washington's most famous waterfall offers a "Goddess for a Day" package: four 50-minute treatments in four hours for $450 a pop. Included: a tranquility massage, facial, milk and honey body scrub and foot revitalization. Berry smoothie is included.
Cheap alternative: Hop a ferry to Bainbridge for the day. Wonder around the shops on the main drag, eat a fat sandwich at Hitchcock Deli and get a double scoop of ice cream at Mora, then book a classic manicure for $35 at Island Renew.

Beast in PDX.
Brunch
Schmancy: Hop on the 1-5 for an overnight in Portland. Stay at Hotel Lucia and book a four-course Sunday brunch paired with wine for $70 at Portland's Beast. It will arguably be the best breakfast of your life.
Cheap alternative: It's not out of town, but a water taxi ride from downtown to West Seattle's Marination Ma Kai has that day trip vibe. The Hawaiian/Korean house of kimchi fried rice and spam tacos is offering bottomless mimosas for moms for $11 on Mother's Day proper.

Shop
Schmancy: OK, Totokaelo is in Capitol Hill, which is very much a part of Seattle. But if you live outside the city core, breakfast at the charming Cafe Pettirosso and shopping (or browsing) at nearby Totokaelo is extra special. Walking in, you might ask yourself if anyone is really hip/rich enough to wear something from the pricey boutique. Maybe she is, but we bet you could pull it off, too.
Cheap alternative: If you're into shopping for collectables, you know that kids can be a pain in the neck in antique shops, where they're both easily bored and exposed to breakables. Head to Tacoma solo to find a small army of vintage, thrift and antique spots with stock that isn't nearly as picked over as what you'll find in Seattle proper. Check out Purple Peacock for jewelry and the wonderfully cluttered Rampart for housewares.
