Melt mac and cheese elevates a staple comfort food to an art

Melt mac and cheese brings the humble comfort food to the next level.

Farmers Market fixture Melt makes boxed mac and cheese cry. The 2½- year-old business was started by a pair of comfort food-loving New Yorkers who perfected recipes for take-and-bake, individually sized mac and cheese (two kids could probably split an order for lunch.) Ingredients are local and, whenever possible, organic. Melt’s flavor combos go way beyond powdered cheddar, too: a Hawaiian-inspired option features mozzarella and Monterey jack, ham, basil and sweet pineapple; the Summer Harvest is stuffed with fresh veggies and fondue cheeses. Vegan? Stick a fork in the "No Moo" MeltMac.

In addition to farmers market around town, find Melt at Cone & Steiner on Capitol Hill and in Pioneer Square, La Pasta in Wedgwood and Bridle Trails Red Apple Market in Kirkland. meltmac.com
