Monday, July 24

Science Author, Lynn Brunelle Enjoy engaging and educational activities with Lynn Brunelle, The four-time Emmy Award-winning writer for Bill Nye the Science Guy makes learning a blast with hands-on science and craft activities from her award-winning books. 11 a.m. University Book Store (University District).

Music Under the Stars Enjoy a night of classical music. At 7:30 p.m. live music will be performed by a student ensemble, followed at 8 p.m. by a live audio broadcast of world-renowned artists performing at Benaroya Hall, streamed directly to the park by KING-FM. 7:30 p.m. Delridge Playfield (West Seattle).

 

Tuesday, July 25

Jack and the Dragon Colorful shadow puppets and live music with banjo, dulcimer and jaw harp bring an Appalachian fairy tale to life with Oregon Shadow Theatre. 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Douglass-Truth Library (Central District).

Sunshine! Children and families of all ages will learn about plants, animals and human culture through music, movement and collaborative storytelling with Eli Rosenblatt. 3 to 4 p.m. Meadowbrook Community Center (Wedgewood).

Lunchtime Concert Series Free music in the park in this weekly series, every Tuesday through Aug. 15. (Note: the location changes each week). This week, enjoy music from steel drum band, The Islanders. Noon. Cromwell Park (Shoreline).

 

Wednesday, July 26

Get Ready for the Eclipse The first total solar eclipse in almost 40 years will cross the US on August 21. Join Dennis Schatz, nationally recognized astronomy educator, for an interactive presentation. Today, 5 to 6 p.m. Columbia Library (Columbia City), 3 p.m. July 29 Beacon Hill Library (Beacon Hill), and 2 p.m. July 30 Greenwood Library (Greenwood).

 

Thursday, July 27

Tugboat Story Time Listen to stories about boats and the sea aboard the Arthur Foss, a 100-year-old tugboat. After stories, there is time to explore the boat. This is an indoor/outdoor activity; dress accordingly. Ages 2 to 5. Not intended for preschool groups. 11 a.m. to noon. Center for Wooden Boats (South Lake Union).

 

Friday, July 28

Feng Hsiang Dance Troupe Enjoy a performance by Feng Hsiang Dance Troupe of Keelung, Taiwan. The troupe uses a mix of folk and classical dance, embellished by brightly colored, flowing costumes and held objects to express the history and rituals of Taiwan. 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Seattle Center Armory (Lower Queen Anne).

Recess Monkey Concert & Cartoons Enjoy a live, outdoor concert by Recess Monkey. Then, see an hour-long cartoon compilation screening, including Looney Tunes, Superman, and more presented by Scarecrow Video. 7 p.m. Magnuson Park Amphitheater (Sand Point). 

 

Saturday, July 29

Family Field Day: Summer at SAM Enjoy all-ages art making, performances, family-friendly yoga, and community partner activities to get everyone thinking creatively about our environment and how we can help it. 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Olympic Sculpture Park (Belltown).

Cascade Kids Days Enjoy bouncy houses, imagination playground, hands-on learning, art, and entertainment. 2 to 5 p.m. Cascade Playground (South Lake Union).

Movies at the Mural. Outdoor film at Seattle Center. Each show begins with a short film by Cornish students. Bring low-back chairs or blankets. No pets. Movie begins at dusk. Weekly through Aug. 26. This week, Princess Bride. 9 p.m. Seattle Center Mural Amphitheater (Lower Queen Anne).

 

Sunday, July 30 

Pista Sa Nayon The largest Filipino-American outdoor event in the country features food, arts and crafts, entertainment, children’s games and more. 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Seward Park Amphitheater (Seward Park).
