Learn to bake cookies, see robots in action, and check out a puppet show! All for free.

Monday, September 25

Harvest Lavender and Make Soap. Seattle Children’s PlayGarden is a space that celebrates all needs and abilities. Open play is every week from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and 1:30 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday. Today, kids can learn to harvest lavender and create handmade soaps.  Tuesday, enjoy kite making, and Wednesday learn to bake cookies! Seattle Children’s PlayGarden (Central District).

 

Wednesday, September 27

Story Time. Weekly story time in the toy store, all ages welcome. Today, enjoy story time with a special guest; author Laura N. Clement reading from her book, Egg. 11 a.m. Top Ten Toys (Greenwood).

Story Time. Enjoy story time with author Will Hubbell as he shares his book Pumpkin Jack, the story of a discarded jack-o-lantern. 10 a.m. Third Place Books (Lake Forest Park).

Pajamas & Puppets. Preschoolers and toddlers can enjoy a puppet show — along with stories, rhymes, and songs. 7 to 7:30 p.m. Northeast Branch of the Seattle Public Library (View Ridge).

 

Thursday, September 28

Build It! Kids ages 2 to 5 can build with Legos®, blocks, train sets, and Lincoln logs in this weekly drop-in session. Develop critical-thinking and engineering thought processes and promote pro-social behaviors like sharing and teamwork. 9:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Magnuson Community Center (Sandpoint).

Tugboat Story time Listen to stories about boats and the sea aboard the Arthur Foss, a 100-year-old tugboat. After stories, there is time to explore the boat. 11 a.m. to noon. Center for Wooden Boats (South Lake Union).

 

Saturday, September 30

Free State Parks Day. The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission invites the public to celebrate the 101st birthday of the National Park Service. On free days, visitors don’t need a Discover Pass for day-use visits by vehicle. Check out participating parks here.

5th Annual Classic Workboat Show. Visit and tour classic and modern working boats including tugboats, fishing boats, training vessels, research vessels, and ex-military vessels. There will be live music, engine demonstrations, food trucks and more. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.

Robothon. See robots of all types and sizes compete in a variety of challenges. 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Seattle Center Armory (Lower Queen Anne).

 

Sunday, October 1

Fire Day. Co-presented with the Seattle Fire Department, kids can try on gear, learn fire safety tips and tricks, and even climb aboard a real working fire engine or fireboat. Kids can also explore hands-on artifacts and historic fire equipment, meet local fire fighters, enjoy craft activities, and more.  Free admission to the Grand Atrium during the hours of this event (regular admission rates apply for access to upper galleries). 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. MOHAI (South Lake Union).

Sharktank Workshop for Teens. In this workshop, Leslie Feinzaig, the Founder & CEO of Venture Kits and Seattle Female Founders Alliance, will show teens how to pitch an idea in front of investors. Kids will work in teams with other aspiring student entrepreneurs to brainstorm a business idea and create a pitch for it. At the end of the workshop, each team will get to pitch their idea on stage for a chance to win a $50 Amazon gift card. Lunch is provided. Pre-register. 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. ATLAS Workbase (Lower Queen Anne).

CroatiaFest. Celebrate Croatia with music and dance performances, food, art, activities, demonstrations and workshops. Noon to 6 p.m. Seattle Center Armory (Lower Queen Anne).
