Head down to MOHAI this Saturday, and celebrate an important piece of Seattle’s history and creative spirit. Family and Community Day is inspired by the current exhibit, Seattle on the Spot: The Photographs of Al Smith, which features 65-years of Smith’s lively photos that capture Seattle’s African American community and the local jazz scene. Kids will enjoy the black & white photo booth and creating paper quilt squares—available throughout the day. Also, kids can create their own photo album with Pratt Fine Arts from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. And if you’re craving jazz after seeing legendary performers in Smith’s photos, enjoy live music from Seattle JazzEd, an all youth jazz ensemble. For even more history, see a documentary about local jazz and blues singer, Ernestine Anderson at 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. both followed by post-screening discussion with the filmmaker.
