Bird Fest Sat Feb 17, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Burien Community Center. FREE

It’s time for the Great Backyard Bird Count. Join Seattle Audubon Young Birders, learn how to identify local birds, then spend 15 minutes counting our feathered friends to help naturalists develop an understanding of local populations. Plus get tips on creating your bird-friendly garden then listen to a talk about the Puget Sound Seabird Survey. Please pre-register.

 

Orangutan’s 50th Birthday Sat Feb 17, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Woodland Park Zoo

It’s Chinta's 50th birthday! As the oldest animal currently living at Woodland Park Zoo and one of the oldest female orangutans in North America, don’t you think she should have the biggest party? Come watch her enjoy cake and presents at 10:30 a.m. then stay for fun activities. Event included with admission, free ages 2 and younger.

 

Clay Martin’s Puppet Theatre Sat Feb 17, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Mt Baker Community Club

Head to Mt. Baker Community Club this Saturday. The whole family will love this one-hour fun, interactive puppet show. $3 donation per person.

 

Junie B Jones, The Musical Sat Feb 17, 1 & 3 p.m. SecondStory Repertory Redmond

It’s Junie B’s first day of first grade! Join her on her school adventure when SecondStory Rep brings the tale, adapted from the book series by Barbara Park, to life on stage. Show runs weekends through March 18. $12.

 

Salamander Search Sat Feb 17, 3-5 p.m. Camp Long

Search under logs and along the pond banks at Camp Long in West Seattle for three types of shy and mysterious salamanders. Learn why dark, dank, wet places are their desirable hiding spots. Waterproof shoes recommended. 

 

Tricky Crafty Camouflage Sun Feb 18, 2:30-3:30 p.m. Lewis Creek Park Visitor Center. FREE

Did you know that animals can trick your eyes by using different camouflage methods? Learn their tricks then head outside and test your spotting skills on a fun, foraging quest! Great for children ages 5 to 10 with accompanying adult. Be sure to dress for the weather.
