Skagit Valley Tulip Festival This month long festival celebrates the tulip and features a variety of family friendly activities. Here are 5 tips to make the best of your trip. Various locations throughout Skagit Valley.

 

Tuesday, April 3

University Village Play Days Each week a different store hosts a special activity for kids. This week, Microsoft is hosting. 10 to 11 a.m. University Village, Seattle (U District).

StoryTime for Kids Enjoy dramatic readings of the best in new and classic kids books followed by activities and entertainment. Recommended for ages 3 to 7. 11 a.m. to noon. University Book Store, Seattle (U District).

 

Wednesday, April 4

FREE Renton History Museum Learn about Renton’s history. The current exhibit, Black & White examines the history of clothing in black and white and their significance. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Renton History Museum, Renton.

Top Ten Toys Story Time Hang out in a toy store and enjoy a story. 11 a.m. to noon. Top Ten Toys, Seattle (Greenwood).

Sanctuary in the City Enjoy classical music in this free concert series by Pacific MusicWorks held on the first Wednesday of each month. Today, hear music by women composers of the 17th century. Noon. Christ Our Hope Catholic Church, Seattle (Belltown).

 

Thursday, April 5

Children’s Hour at Scarecrow Video Preschoolers and kindergarteners can learn all about animal life in this ten-week, drop-in series. Each week, kids will enjoy video clips, books, and hands-on activities related to a different element of animal life. This week, Children's Hour will start off with some very special guests from Insect Safari. Take an up close look at insects, and learn about where and how they live. 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Scarecrow Video, Seattle (Ravenna)

Museum First Thursday Enjoy free admission to select museums (note: there may be admission for special exhibits) including Burke Museum (U District), Museum of History and Industry (South Lake Union), Living Computers 5 to 8 p.m. (Sodo), Northwest African American Museum (Central District) and Museum of Flight  5 to 9 p.m. (Tukwila). Seattle Art Museum (Downtown Seattle) hosts a drop-in studio led by local artist, Aramis O. Hammer. Wing Luke Museum (International District) has a children’s story time followed by an art activity at 11 a.m.

Cartoon Happy Hour Watch cartoons on the big screen and enjoy special food and drink offers ($). 5 to 7 p.m. Central Cinema, Seattle (Central District).

UFO Festival Celebrate the strange with this fun festival featuring live entertainment, a costume contest, face painting, inflatables, food vendors, indoor presentations ($) and more. 6 to 11:15 p.m. Southwest 152nd Street, Burien.

Rosie The Riveter Musical 5th Avenue Theatre's touring company presents a family musical about the women who made the nation’s airplanes during WWII. Also, see a couple of the bombers Rosie made on display in the museum. 6 p.m. Museum of Flight, Seattle (Tukwila).

 

Saturday, April 7

Daffodil Parade Two-hour parade features more than 180 entries, including floats decorated with thousands of fresh daffodils, marching bands and more. The parade travels through the towns of Tacoma (S. Ninth and Pacific Avenue, 10:15 a.m.), Puyallup (Seventh Avenue S.W. and Fifth Street S.W., 12:45 p.m.), Sumner (Kincaid Avenue and Main Street, 2:30 p.m.) and Orting (Bridge Street S. and Washington Avenue E., 5 p.m.).

Edible Book Festival See an exhibit of edible “books” that take their inspiration from real books. Vote for your favorite, or bring in your own creation (pre-register). Books will be consumed after judging. 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Third Place Commons, Lake Forest Park.

Pirates, Pixies, & Helmets Kids can get fitted for free helmets, and enjoy special activities while they wait. 1:30 to 5 p.m. Federal Way Community Center, Federal Way.

Annual Free Children’s Concert Seattle Men’s Chorus and Seattle Women’s Chorus, along with special guests, Washington Middle School Choir, present their annual concert for families featuring family-friendly pop songs and musical numbers. 2 p.m. Reserve tickets online. McCaw Hall, Seattle (Seattle Center).

Book Launch Party Meet local author, Will Taylor and celebrate the release of his latest book, Maggie and Abby's Neverending Pillow Fort perfect for readers ages 8 to 12. 6 p.m. University Book Store, Seattle (U District).

 

Sunday, April 8

Sensory Day In recognition of World Autism Awareness Day, families affected by autism and other sensory disorders can come experience a quieter, less-crowded museum and special activities. 8 to 10 a.m. Museum of Flight, Seattle (Boeing Field).

Board Game Sunday Bring a board game or borrow one and play with a new friend. Choose from Blokus, Carcassonne, Ticket to Ride, Jenga and Scrabble. 1 to 4 p.m. Ballard Branch Library, Seattle (Ballard).

Washington Park Arboretum Loop Trail Grand Opening Celebrate the completion of the new trail with kids activities, live music, food trucks and more. Noon to 3 p.m. Washington Park Arboretum, Seattle (Montlake).

April Showers Make Watersheds Join a Park Ranger to learn all about watersheds and the important part they play in the water cycle.  Create your own mini rain showers, and afterwards learn how to help our watersheds. 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Lewis Creek Park Visitor Center, Bellevue.
