Skagit Valley Tulip Festival Today is the last official day of a monthlong festival that celebrates tulips. Here are 5 tips to make the best of your trip. Various locations throughout Skagit Valley.

University Village Play Days Each week a different store hosts a special activity for kids. This week, Kumon is hosting. 10 to 11 a.m. University Village, Seattle (U District).

Children's Day, Book Day A multicultural children’s books festival featuring hands-on art activities, live mariachi music, refreshments and free books for kids. 6 to 7:30 p.m. South Park Branch Library, Seattle (South Park).

 

Wednesday, May 2

Sanctuary in the City Enjoy classical music in this free concert series by Pacific MusicWorks held on the first Wednesday of each month. Today, hear pieces that exhibit the development of the cello sonata. 12:10 p.m. Christ Our Hope Catholic Church, Seattle (Belltown).

Family Happy Hour Kids can enjoy DizzyBus (mini indoor gym) while parents can enjoy beer ($). Hotdogs and ice cream also available for purchase. 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Populuxe Brewing, Seattle (Ballard).

 

Thursday, May 3

Museum First Thursday Enjoy free admission to select museums (note: there may be additional fees for special exhibits) including Burke Museum (U District), Museum of History and Industry (South Lake Union), Living Computers 5 to 8 p.m. (Sodo), Northwest African American Museum (Central District) and Museum of Flight  5 to 9 p.m. (Tukwila). Seattle Art Museum (Downtown Seattle) hosts a drop-in studio led by local artist Eve Sanford. Wing Luke Museum (International District) has a children’s story time followed by an art activity at 11 a.m.

Children’s Hour at Scarecrow Video Preschoolers and kindergartners can learn all about animal life in this 10-week, drop-in series. Each week, kids will enjoy video clips, books, and hands-on activities related to a different element of animal life. 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Scarecrow Video, Seattle (Ravenna).

Tinkerlab Drop-In Kids can experiment with littleBits inventor kits. The bits snap together with magnets — no soldering, wiring or programming needed. 4 to 5:30 p.m Rainier Beach Branch Library, Seattle (Rainier Beach).

 

Friday, May 4

Free Bellevue Arts Museum Check out current exhibitions as well as the Sculpture Garden, and Imagination Stations with hands-on activities for all ages. 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Bellevue Arts Museum, Bellevue.

Teen Night Out at SAM High school-aged teens are invited to a night of hands-on workshops taught by local artists, music by DJs, and art tours.  Get free tickets online. 7 to 10 p.m. Seattle Art Museum.

 

Saturday, May 5

Cinco de Mayo Celebration Enjoy traditional Mexican food ($), children’s activities, arts and crafts from local vendors, live performances and more. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. El Centro de la Raza. Seattle (Beacon Hill).

iFest A festival devoted to indie games of all types: video, board, and card.  Meet game creators and try out new games. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Seattle Center Armory, Seattle (Lower Queen Anne).

33rd Annual Powwow One of the largest Powwows in Washington, a celebration of American Indian singing, drumming, dancing, and arts and crafts. Grand entries 1 and 7 p.m. May 5, and 1 p.m. May 6. Seaview Gymnasium at Edmonds Community College, Edmonds.

 

Sunday, May 6

Sunday Public Sail Each Sunday, the Center for Wooden Boats offers free 45-minute rides on Lake Union. Set sail on one of the classic boats. Sign up for a slot in person, several trips throughout the day. Space is limited. Sign up begins at 10 a.m. Center for Wooden Boats (Lake Union). 

Kodomo no Hi An annual festival for families celebrating Japanese art, culture, food, and music. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Japanese Cultural & Community Center of Washington, Seattle (Central District).

Youth Sailing Open House Take a sailboat ride, play games and see demonstrations hosted by Northwest Youth Sailing. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sail Sand Point, Seattle (Sand Point). This event is not taking place.

Asian-Pacific Islander Heritage Celebration Celebrate the diverse cultures of the Asian-Pacific Islander communities with youth drill teams, dance performances, a hum bow eating contest and more. 11:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. Seattle Center Armory, Seattle (Lower Queen Anne).

Photo Fest Explore the art of photography with a day of hands-on activities for all ages and check out the new exhibition Captive Light: The Life and Photography of Ella E. McBride. Noon to 4 p.m. Tacoma Art Museum, Tacoma.

Board Game Sunday Bring a board game or borrow one and play with a new friend. Choose from Blokus, Carcassonne, Ticket to Ride, Jenga and Scrabble. 1 to 4 p.m. Ballard Branch Library, Seattle (Ballard).
