We Asked, Moms Answered: What Do You Really Want for Mother's Day?

We asked, moms answered. There are definitely some common themes in the answers to our question: "What do you really want for Mother's Day?"

One big commonality was their simplicity. Nothing on this list involves a ton of effort or a huge expenditure. No one asked for Champagne, or diamonds, or a new car (although some may be wishing for those things!) Sleep, pampering and a relief from responsibility are popular (and understandable) desires.

Several moms had "clean house" among their wishes, and we're assuming they're using "clean" as an adjective, not a verb. In other words, they want a clean house, they don't want to clean the house. It's an important distinction.

Thanks, moms, for sharing your thoughts with us. Here they are:

"For heaven’s sake, let me sleep in! Dad, load those kids in the car and go get me a gourmet coffee drink and a decadent pastry. Then bring it to me around 9 a.m., and afterward take me to some local nurseries to pick out some plants and I'm golden."  — Shayna Strandt

"I just want to sleep in, and not have to cook anything for anybody all day! That is all." — Linda Rim, Normandy Park

"As a single mama to an active 3-year-old, I would love a mini-vacation with my sweet pea to Vashon or Bainbridge Island while someone cleans our house for us. Maybe a pedicure or massage, too."   — J. Maria Guagliardo, Seattle

"Sleep in, clean house, not having to cook or figure out meals." — Melissa Taft

"Pancakes! And a family hike."  — Steph Gustafson Tichenor

"Sleep in, breakfast in bed, clean house, and a two- to three-hour massage and facial, then to be 'dressed up' by someone else so I'm not in my usual sweats with my hair in a ponytail and can feel like a beautiful woman." — Athena Bautista

"Abs."  — Erin Strong

"Alone time!" — Lauren D. Lederer
