Meet new library pals. Young children can practice their social skills at this neighborly playtime. Read stories, enjoy toys and make connections with fellow families. 3 to 5 p.m. Magnolia Branch Library.
Scale a jungle gym. If you haven’t yet visited the new Yesler Terrace Park playground, go. It opened in August and has some super cool structures: slopes for running up and sliding down, forts with crow’s nests for climbing and bouncy bridges for balancing. An added bonus: sweeping city views.

Take a Hike. The days are getting shorter, but you can still soak up the afternoon light with an after school hike. Try Carkeek Park, Tiger Mountain or Snoqualmie Falls. They’re fun, not-too-long hikes that are totally doable on a weekday afternoon.
Pokemon League Night Calling all players for Pokemon league play. Learn the game basics and get the feel for competitive play. You can trade and win prizes, too. 5 to 7 p.m. Top Ten Toys, Seattle (Greenwood).
Kaleidoscope Play and Learn Listen to stories, sing songs and do simple arts and crafts. Bring a lunch or snack and eat together with your new playmates. Best for preschool age and younger. 10:30 to noon, Rainier Beach Branch Library.

Welcome the salmon home. September is a great time to watch the salmon returning to Pacific Northwest streams. Take a mid-week breather from the busy city and go witness this magnificent journey. Many viewing areas are free to visit, and some have volunteer naturalists on site.
Pajamas and Puppets Bring your preschoolers and toddlers to enjoy a puppet show, stories, rhymes and songs. 7 to 7:30 p.m. Northeast Branch Library.
