There's a Halloween pet parade, a couple of crafty workshops, a unique take on the tale of Goldilocks and a(nother) spider-appreciation event!

Mercer Slough 25th Anniversary Open House

It’s 25 years for the Mercer Slough Environmental Education Center!  Come celebrate a quarter century of hands-on nature programming and exploration. Take a tour of the site and classrooms, join a hike through the wetland and forest and take part in fun program activities.

 

See Art/Make Art: Mini-Altares
 10:30 a.m.-noon, Sat, Oct 20 
Southwest Branch of SPL. FREE

For kids 7 and older, the See Art/Make Art series is part of the 27th Annual SW Artist Showcase. Spend a fun morning creating. You’ll get to take home your mini-altares with clay figures at the end. 

 

"Goldilocks and the Three Bears"
Sat, Oct 20 1-2 p.m.
Sunset Hill Community Club

Thistle Theater brings to life this classic tale with live music and a twist using Bunraku (ancient Japanese puppetry). Join the three bears as they load up their trailer and leave Yellowstone Park for a vacation in Hollywood. What happens when Goldilocks and her pet duck stumble upon the Bear’s campsite where the porridge is hot and the bed is just right? Come and see.  $10.

 

Spiders of the Duwamish

A little nervous about our eight-legged friends? Maybe a little knowledge about one of nature's best architects will help tame your fears. Join naturalist Jeff Rahlmann on a fun educational walk through the Duwamish River Valley to search for spiders, explore their habitat, and vanish the myths.

 

Explorastory! Mini-Catapults
1:30 p.m. Sat, Oct 20
Kirkland Library. FREE

It’s all about the hands-on activity this Saturday at the Kirkland Library. Using STEM concepts through stories and songs, make your own mini catapult and let the marshmallows fly! Test your projectile invention for distance, speed and accuracy. Great for kids age 5-8 with and adult. Please pre-register.

 

Halloween Pet Parade
11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 21
Volunteer Park. FREE

It’s time for a costume dry run. Pull out your costume — and one for your dog too, for the annual Volunteer Park pet parade! Stick around afterward for food trucks, prizes, and booths with all things pets.
