Ashley Merryman, award-winning journalist and co-author of "NurtureShock: New Thinking About Children," will pay a visit to the Northwest to talk about the latest research in child development and parenting techniques. She will be at The Island School, located at 8553 Day Road N.E. on Bainbridge Island, on Tuesday, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m.
"NurtureShock" has been making waves in education and parenting circles, delving into topics such as self control, the sibling effect, the science of teen rebellion and the inverse power of praise. In her talk Merryman will explore the latest research, turning most conventional wisdom on its ear. The book has been featured on Good Morning America, Nightline, All Things Considered, Fresh Air and in Newsweek. Merryman will discuss why many of modern society's strategies for nurturing children are backfiring.
