Pike Place Market's beloved tourist attraction, its famous Gum Wall, is getting a cleaning. After twenty years of folks adding their chewed-up wads of gum to the super-colorful wall, which now stretches over fifty feet long, the wall will be scraped clean.
Anecdotally, the wall numbers among the "'germiest' tourist attractions" because of its accumulated layers of chewed gum. The wall is being cleaned because the sugar from the gum has actually started to affect the wall's bricks.
Check out Pike Place Market's Facebook page to participate in the "Gum Wall Snap," a contest for the best picture in front of the gum wall.
