Stu Jacobson has been working to ensure the safety children in childcare in Washington State for nearly 20 years. And that is why the citizens of Washington nominated the winner of the Washington State Jefferson Award for public service to be the state's nominee for a The National Jefferson Award program.
Stu Jacobson is a champion systemic changes to improve child care safety.
Jacobson was recognized for his selfless and passionate dedication to educating parents, childcare providers, licensors and leaders about the state's childcare challenges and to institute safer childcare standards. Among the key questions that Jacobson and his non-profit organization Parents for Safe Child Care have worked to keep on the legislative table are:
-
Should liability insurance be mandatory ?
-
Should fingerprinting of all workers be mandatory ?
-
Should those who care for our kids be required pre-service training ?
-
Should the QRIS rating system be mandatory instead of voluntary ?
-
Should the Department of Early Learning website post full disclosure of licensing actions and violations ?
-
Should Department of Early Learning require licensing violations and actions to be posted on site in public view ?
-
When should civil penalties be enforced with chronic out of compliance programs ?
-
Should licensing inspections be pre-announced ? Should the licensing inspections be once a year ?
-
Should Dept. of Health under RCW 75.15.060 be re-instated in their responsibility of enforcement and evaluation of safety and health standards ?
-
Is 37% subsidy rate reasonable to expect quality care for our working poor population ?
