Congratulations Unsung Hero: Christena Evans

February is Parent Recognition Month. Strengthening Families Washington, of the Department of Early Learning for Washington State, believes there is no better way to recognize a parent, grandparent, foster or adoptive parent than by acknowledging the numerous and impressive things they do to strengthen their family and those around them in their community.

Seattle's Child is proud to sponsor the Washington Unsung Hero Awards, recognizing our everyday heroes and honoring the important role caregivers play in children's lives. There are 28 nominees for the 28 days of February, and Seattle's Child will highlight each and every one.

Congratulations to the Unsung Hero for February 2: Christena Evans – Spokane, WA:

Christena is a single mother raising twin daughters. Education is very important to her as evidenced by her active role and willingness to assist in the Head Start classroom and all Early Head Start and Head Start (EHS/HS) activities. Christena was nominated and accepted to serve as the Policy Council (PC) Rep. for EHS/HS (2012/13). Once a month she represents the Hillyard Center at PC meetings and she also attends Hillyard Parent Meetings and gives updates regarding EHS/HS.

Christena recently completed her GED and will attend Spokane Community College in the spring. In addition to her active role with Head Start, she is employed as a Building Manager for the apartment complex where she and her family reside.

It is my privilege to nominate Ms. Christena Evans as Hillyard's Early Head Start/Head Start UNSUNG HERO.

Nominator: Kay Mack
