Ten thousand diapers. That’s a whole lot of comfy baby bottoms, thanks to families whose kids enrolled at Bright Horizons, which provides early education, childcare, workforce education services, and back-up care atĀ 30 centers in and around Seattle.
In celebration of the 25th anniversaries of Bright Horizons Foundation for Children and Mary’s Place, the largest emergency shelter for families experiencing homelessness in Washington State, the centers held a diaper drive throughout the month of July. Each center’s goal was to collect 25 pounds of diapers to help fill collection cribs, but the centers far exceeded the goal. More than 10,000 diapers will be donated to Maryās Place.
āAt Bright Horizons, we try to encourage children to help make the world a better place,ā Ali Rock, regional manager for Seattle area Bright Horizons locations, said in a release. “The success of this diaper donation program shows the generosity of our Bright Horizons families and will make a difference in the lives of children in need at the same time.ā
As families brought in diapers to fill cribs during the drive, kids enrolled at the centers joined the effort by weighing and counting the diaper donations. Amazon, a sponsor of Maryās Place and a Bright Horizons workplace services client, also donated diapers.Ā
That the two organizations would celebrate their anniversary together is no stretch. In June Bright Horizons recently opened a Bright Spaces program at Maryās Place family shelter in Burien. Bright Spaces, the signature program of the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children, provides engaging play environments that are cheerful, inviting, safe, and fun to support nonprofits and the kids in their care. Established in 1999, the foundation is committed to serving vulnerable children and families in communities where they live and work. The Mary’s Place space is one of 300 Bright Spaces in the United States.Ā
Mary’s Place CEO Dominque Alex pointed out that the shelter’s largest population is children under 18, “and most of those are babies and toddlers. Alex expressed gratitude for the donation.
āWe go through a lot of diapers,ā Alex said.
