The King County Civil Rights Commission is sponsoring its 15th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Writing Essay Contest, which is open to all eighth grade students attending public and private schools in King County. The purpose of the essay contest is to encourage students to think critically about Dr. King's legacy of peace and justice.
This year's essay theme is: "No work is insignificant. All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence."
All essays must be postmarked by Friday, Nov. 8 and mailed to: King County Civil Rights Commission, 401 5th Ave., Suite 135, Seattle, WA 98104. Essays postmarked after that date will not be considered, nor returned.
First, second and third prize winners will win trophies and commemorative Dr. King pins. Awards will be presented at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration on Jan. 16 in downtown Seattle.
