Erika’s Picks: Family fun this weekend, March 15-16

Celebrate Holi, St. Patrick's Day, music and BRAINS!

Hey there families, and welcome to Erikaā€™s Picks. For years, Iā€™ve been on the lookout for the best family-friendly events happening each weekend around the greater Seattle area. Whether youā€™re looking to explore a new park, attend a fun workshop, or catch a local performance, Iā€™ve got you covered. Each week, Iā€™ll share my handpicked activities that are sure to keep the little ones entertained, engaged, and maybe even learning something new along the way. So, grab your calendar, gather up your crew, and get ready for a weekend full of fun! Letā€™s dive into Seattle family events for this weekend, March 15-16, 2025.

Woodinville Leprechaun Leap

  • Saturday March 15 from 8 to 11 a.m.
  • Wilmot Gateway Park
  • $40 for 5K, $50 for 10K, and free for 100M Kids Sprite Sprint

Dig out your green and join the fun-filled Leprechaun Leap at Wilmot Gateway Park, Woodinville on Saturday. This family-friendly running event is on a fast and flat course and welcomes all ages, dogs, and strollers. There will be drawings for fun prizes, and medals for the 5K, 10K, and the wee ones Sprite Sprint for kids 6 and under. Come early for face painting! The staggered races start at 9 a.m.

Brain Fest with Allen Institute

  • Sat, March 15, 10 a.m. ā€“ 5 p.m.
  • Pacific Science Center
  • Included with general admission. $26.95/person

Join Pacific Science Center for the second annual BrainFest, a day of brainy fun for all ages. Youā€™ll get to explore hands-on activities, meet Allen Institute scientists, and learn about cutting-edge neuroscience research. You can even touch a real brain! Festival activities include examining samples through a microscope, listening to the electricity in your own nervous system, comparing animal brains, including a T Rex brain, and so much more. BrainFest is included with General Admission.

Kindiependent Kids Rock Concert: Recess Monkey

  • Saturday March 15, from 10:30-11:30 a.m.
  • Mount Baker Community Club
  • $10/person (free for babes in arms)

Get ready to get your jam on with Recess Monkey this Saturday at the Mount Baker Community Club. This show is part of the Kindiependent Kids Rock Series, which has all the best kid-friendly concerts and performances. All shows start at 10:30 a.m. (Doors open at 10 a.m.) and are an hour long, and there is free parking around the club. Recess Monkey Ā is a Seattle-based trio of current and former elementary school teachers who have made 14 albums of original music for kids with an emphasis on audience participation, dancing, and a focus on the entire family.

Irish Festival

  • March 15, from 12 to 6 p.m., and March 16, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Seattle Center Armory
  • Free

Presented by the Irish Heritage Club, the Irish Festival Ā features live musical performances, genealogy workshops, childrenā€™s activities, Irish step dancing, and Irish and Celtic craft goods. The festival is a highlight of Seattleā€™s Irish Week celebrations organized to celebrate St. Patrickā€™s Day, so don your green attire and head to the Armory for a fun weekend of lively music and lots of laughs.

Holi Festival of Color

  • March 15, 12 ā€“ 4 p.m.
  • Liberty Park, Renton
  • FREE with registration

Join Renton Parks and Recreation and the non-profit, Voice of Planet, at the Holi – Renton Color Festival on Saturday. The event is open to all. Come dance, sing, and throw colors on each other in celebration of Springā€™s arrival and Winterā€™s passing. The colored powder will be provided, plus there will be a DJ, food trucks, and vendors on site. The event is free, but bring money for incidentals and be sure to register in advance.
