Family-friendly New Year's Eve events around Seattle, 2019

Ring in the new year with your kids! Many of these events do not require that they stay up until midnight. Whether you do or not is up to you.

Who’s ready for a new year? We sure are! The following Seattle-area events are designed to let families bring in 2020 together. 

 

Seattle Center

At midnight, the Space Needle erupts with fireworks and lightshow to bring in 2020. Leading into that, there’s lots going on nearby. The rink at Fisher Pavilion stays open until 11:45 p.m. There’s a light show and dance party at the International Fountain from 10 p.m. to midnight, and in the Armory, Turn Left on Blue, an 11-piece band, gets the dance floor hopping to blues swing and soul hits starting at 8 p.m.

 

Seattle Public Library

Three branches are hosting free New Year's Eve events. From 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. the Broadview Branch is holding a New Year's Eve Story Time. Festive attire is encouraged (12755 Greenwood Ave N). From 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the Greenwood Branch is having New Year's at Noon, with crafts, stories and revelry (8016 Greenwood Ave N). And from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. the Lake City Branch is having a Family New Year's Eve, including a ball-drop at noon from an outside balcony (12501 28th Ave NE). In other library news, all branches close at 6 p.m. on Dec. 31 and will stay closed on Jan. 1.

 

KidsQuest Children’s Museum

Activities include crafts, New Year’s themed story times and something called a “bubble wrap stomp.” 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 1116 108th Ave NE, Bellevue.

 

Tacoma First Night

There’s an alcohol-free celebration zone in downtown Tacoma starting at 5 p.m. There will be food vendors, a night market, firepits, performances on multiple stages and a “Kids’ Countdown” at 9 p.m. for those who would prefer to mark the turn of the calendar in another timezone. Admission is $14-$18, kids 11 and under are free. Events take place on Broadway between Ninth and 11th.

 

Kids Discovery Museum (KiDiMu)

The Kids Discovery Museum on Bainbridge Island celebrates Noon Year’s Eve. Enjoy special activities leading up to a balloon drop at noon. 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Included with admission. 301 Ravine Lane NE, Bainbridge Island.

 

Hands On Children’s Museum

Olympia’s children’s museum’s Noon Year’s Eve party has a ball-drop every hour plus the chance for kids to carouse with various children’s book characters. For example, they can explore engineering & pneumatics with the Three Little Pigs and experience chemistry demos & Oobleck with 'Dr. Seuss'. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. 414 Jefferson St. NE, Olympia.

 

Imagine Children’s Museum

Wear your PJs to this evening party for families that features live entertainment, art activities, games, and a 9 p.m. ball drop. Pizza and snacks will be available for purchase. 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. 1502 Wall St., Everett.
