Sweet, sweet summer is here, when — for better or worse — the sun wakes kids up earlier than usual. One bright spot for pre-dawn risers: farmers markets. Scoot the kids out of the house in their PJs on a weekend morning and hightail it to the closest market, where you can wander the rows of heirloom tomatoes, greens and berries. If they’re hungry, try a cup of the dessert-for-breakfast lemon curd yogurt from Georgetown-based Ellenos at the U District, Capitol Hill and other neighborhood markets.

In Seattle, the lion’s share of markets are run by Seattle Neighborhood Farmers Markets, operating seven outposts around town, including the Saturday U District market and the recently expanded Sunday market in West Seattle.
