Seattle's Child

Your guide to a kid-friendly city

For the Love of Science

Attention science-loving kids: Prepare to be challenged this month with an awesome exhibit and festival. Pacific Science Center's newest exhibit, "Imaginate," opens June 1. And the Seattle Science Festival, an 11-day celebration of science and technology, runs June 6 through 16 at several venues around town. The festival is also organized by Pacific Science Center.

At "Imaginate," kids can test the properties of materials, build paper airplanes, create stop-motion animation videos and more, all with the goal of introducing them to the skills and attitudes that are part of the process of innovation.

The free Science EXPO Day on June 8 at Seattle Center, which is part of the Science Festival, will have something for everyone in your family with more than 150 booths, activities, demonstrations and performances.

We think these festival events look neat, too: "Submerged in Science" on June 7, 9 and 10 at Golden Gardens Park, where Salish Sea Expeditions will reveal the wonders of watersheds and what happens to water after it goes down the drain. At "Math and Science Mashup" on June 13 at the Mount Baker Community Club, explore everyday aspects of these two worlds with hands-on activities such as kazoo making, paper airplanes and hula hoops.
