Four Seattle High School Students Named National Merit Scholarship Winners

Officials of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation have announced the names of four Seattle Public Schools students who are among the winners in the 56th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These scholars join more than 2,900 distinguished high school seniors nationwide who have won college-sponsored National Merit Scholarship awards, which are financed by U.S. colleges and universities.

The scholarship winners are as follows, along with their current schools, sponsor colleges and probable career fields:

  • Madeline C. Kern, Ingraham High School, sponsored by the University of Oregon for Environmental Consulting

  • Celia A. Lang, Roosevelt High School, sponsored by Whitman College for Environmental Science

  • Devon S. Manber, Garfield High School, sponsored by Carleton College for Physics

  • Dylan Reid Miller, Ballard High School, sponsored by New York University for Film Production

The scholarship winners were selected by officials from each sponsor college. Students will receive awards from $500 to $1,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the sponsoring institution.
