Great fall fun runs for Seattle-area families

It’s a great way to kick off a weekend morning, and get your family out in the fresh air, exercising, rain or shine. Fun runs — for fitness, for charity or just for kicks — are a great feature of Seattle life in the fall. Many cater to families, and have special activities for kids. Costumes can be spotted most of the time, but especially on events near Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

Saturday, October 13

Run and Run S’More

McMenamin’s Anderson School, Bothell

Fundraiser for: Jackson Hill Wellness Centers

Time: 9 a.m.

Cost: $40, $15 10 and under

After race: Gourmet s’mores, S’more fun zone

Sunday, October 14

Dawg Dash

Where: University of Washington Campus

Time: 7:30 a.m. check-in starts, 9 a.m. 10K begins, 9:20 a.m. 5K begins

Cost: $40 for 5K, $50 for 10K

Husky Pup Run for kids 10 and under, 10:30 a.m., free.

Saturday, October 27

West Seattle Monster Dash

Lincoln Park, near south parking lot

Fundraiser for: South Seattle College Cooperative Preschools

Time: 5K run 9:30 a.m.

Cost: $40-$45 adult registration, $25 elementary students, $10 kids dash participants

At 10:30 a.m. there’s a 100 yard dash for kids aged 6 and younger, followed at 10:40 a.m. by a Quarter-mile kids’ dash for kids aged 10 and younger. Cost for the dashes is $10.

Magnuson Halloween Run

Magnuson Park

Time: 10 a.m. start for 5K, 10K and 15K.

Cost: $22 for the 5K, $27 for the 10K, $32 for the 15K.

Kids 400 yard dash at 9:45 a.m. Cost $3.

Bellevue Monster Dash 5K and Lil’ Frankenstein 1K

Fundraiser for: Seattle Humane Society

Time: 8 a.m. race number pickup, 8:45 a.m. kids 1K race start,  9:15 a.m. 5K race start.

Cost $30-$35, $10-$15 for kids’ dash

Run Scared

Seward Park

Fundraiser for: Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

Time: 7:30 a.m. registration opens, 9:15 a.m. costume contest, 9:45 a.m. 10K starts, 10 a.m. 5K and 4K Start.

Cost: 10 K $50-$55, $25 for 18 and under, 5K and 4K $40-$45, $15 for 18 and under.

Before the race, at 8 a.m., there is a Halloween treasure hunt, and then a free kids’ dash at 9 a.m.

Captain Jack’s Treasure Run

Redmond Municipal Campus

Time: 9:30 a.m. for 8K, 9:40 a.m. for 5K

Cost: $50 for 8K, $46 for 5K

Kids’ race 9:20 a.m., $10. Pirate costumes encouraged.

Green Lake Gobble and Mashed Potato Munch-Off

Green Lake Park

Fundraiser for: Union Gospel Mission

Time: 8 a.m. registration and packet pickup, 9:30 a.m. 5K and 10K, 10:30 a.m. contestant drawing for mashed potato munch-off, 10:45 a.m. mashed potato munch-off start.

Cost: $35-$45 for the 5K, $40-$50 for the 10K, 1$ for the munch-off.

Hopelink Annual Turkey Trot

7 a.m. to 11 a.m. First race wave goes at 8 a.m.

Cost: $75 for an express pass, $60-$70 for 12K, $40-$50 for timed 5K, $35-$45 for untimed 5K, $35-$45 for one mile, $30 for Jingle in your Jammies,

Kids’ run for ages 12 and under $20-$25.
