It’s a Bug Blast!

tyal.jpgBug out as thousands of specimens, dead and alive, fly, buzz, crawl and otherwise make their way to the Burke Museum for Bug Blast, a favorite annual family event happening Sunday, Sept. 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Get eye-to-eye with giant walking sticks, examine bugs of all kinds from the Burke’s collections, try some buggy snacks and more.

David George Gordon, aka “The Bug Chef,” returns to Bug Blast with brand new recipes from his recently published book of entomophalolical delights, The Eat-a-Bug Cookbook, Revised: 40 Ways to Cook Crickets, Grasshoppers, Ants, Water Bugs, Spiders, Centipedes, and Their Kin. The Bug Chef will cook up tasty treats on the outdoor stage at 10:30 a.m., noon and 1:30 p.m. Yes, kids, you really can eat the bugs.

This event is presented in partnership with SCARABS: The Bug Society. Bug Blast is included with museum admission, which is $10 for adults, $7.50 for students ages 5 and older, and free for kids ages 4 and younger. The Burke Museum is located on the UW campus in Seattle. To learn more, visit www.burkemuseum.org.
