The city of Seattle made big news a few weeks ago by proposing four weeks of paid parental leave for its employees. Now King County Councilman Rod Dembowski has introduced legislation that would give county employees up to 12 weeks in 100 percent paid leave after a birth, adoption or placement of a foster child.
The proposal will move into committee Tuesday, March 17. From Dembowski’s website: “If adopted, King County would join the growing list of private sector companies and public sector jurisdictions that have adopted paid parental leave policies. These policies reflect the needs of a modern workforce in which around 64 percent of mothers with young children participate, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.”
