The National Film Festival for Talented Youth (NFFTY), the largest youth film festival in the world, will be held April 25 through 28 in Seattle. Out of nearly 700 entries worldwide, programmers selected 215 films to screen during the four-day festival.
The films of NFFTY 2013 represent 30 U.S. states and 20 countries, all from talented directors ages 22 and younger … the next generation of filmmakers.
“These are truly the Oscar winners and industry leaders of tomorrow,” said NFFTY Artistic Director Jesse Harris.
Now in its seventh year, NFFTY has continued to grow year after year. Festival audiences are exposed to insights of today’s youth, and how closely connected and similar the youth of the world really are. NFFTY is also seeing a trend in an increased number of female directors. More than 40 percent of the films this year are from female directors, well above the Hollywood film industry average of 10 percent.
The entire lineup of films, events and panels can be seen at www.nffty.org/schedule-2013. Many of the screenings are not suitable for all ages, which you can see on each film’s webpage. Families with young children are welcome to the “Bring the Kids” screening on Saturday, April 27, at 1:30 p.m. at SIFF Uptown (511 Queen Anne Ave. N.). Inspire your kids with these films made by talented young filmmakers their age.
More than 10,000 attendees are expected at the festival, including young directors from Egypt, Greece, Iceland, Denmark, the UK and more. For more information, or to buy tickets, visit www.nffty.org.
