Laurelhurst Community Salmon Bake to Celebrate Renovated Play Area

The Laurelhurst Salmon Bake and renovated play area celebration is now set for Thursday, Sept. 12 (it was recently rescheduled due to rainy weather). You are invited to join family and friends at the Laurelhurst Community Center (4554 N.E. 41st St. in Seattle) from 5:30 to 8 p.m. for this special community tradition, which features delicious food and great entertainment.

The Hans Brehmer Quartet will be back this year along with the popular kids’ carnival and a ribbon cutting for the play area (at 5:45 p.m.). The Parks and Green Spaces Levy and three Department of Neighborhood Matching Fund Awards provided funding for the play area renovation. Seattle Children’s Hospital, the Laurelhurst Community Center Advisory Council and many neighbors contributed additional funding to help create this fun space and purchase the unique steam scow boat Squak replica play structure. The Squak was a flat-bottom boat that ferried passengers across Lake Washington in the late 1800s.

The event menu includes grilled wild salmon, minted watermelon-feta salad, tangy coleslaw, Mediterranean Cous Cous, fresh rolls and organic chocolate brownies. An adult salmon dinner is $15 and child salmon dinner (12 and younger) is $10. A hot dog or garden burger is $5 and steamed clams or mussels are $4.
