The Force is strong on Star Wars Reads Day! On Satuday, Oct. 5, Star Wars Reads Day celebrates lightsabers and literacy by inviting readers of all ages to get lost in a book about a galaxy far, far away. This is the second year that Star Wars Reads Day events will be held at bookstores, libraries and schools across the nation.
Last year, the King County Library System embraced the first Star Wars Reads Day at a number of branches. At the Sammamish branch, children’s librarian Sara Jensen hosted a special event to a packed house of little Jedi and their parents. Star Wars fans were treated to story time, crafts to create puppets and masks, games and giveaways to spark their interest in reading. And many of them checked out a Star Wars book to take home.

This year, King County Library System is throwing an even bigger celebration – and they need more than one day to do it. Star Wars-themed festivities will be held on Oct. 5 and 19 featuring costumed characters, LEGO building stations and reenactments of fan-favorite movie moments.
In Seattle, you can also meet local Star Wars authors Gus Lopez and Jeff Grubb at the University Book Store on Oct. 5, where you can learn more about their work and pose for a photo with a stormtrooper.
Suit up your little (or big) Star Wars fans in their favorite costumes and head out to one of the many free events in the Seattle area:
