[Measles in King County: A pediatric expert answers your questions]
āWith more than 1,000 cases reported nationwide so far this year, 2025 is on track to be the worst year for measles in the U.S. since the early 1990s,ā said Dr. Meagan Kay, Medical Epidemiologist for Public Health ā Seattle & King County. āNow is the time to check your vaccination status.ā
Most people in the region are protected thanks to the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine. Two doses offer about 97% lifetime protection. However, those who are unvaccinated or uncertain of their immunity ā especially infants, older adults, pregnant people, and those with weakened immune systems ā should be extra cautious and consult their healthcare provider if exposed.
