SPS meetings at schools slated for closure

Districtwide online community meeting set for November 14

The Seattle Public Schools (SPS) closures and consolidations conversation continues this week with the start of a new round of community engagement meetings.Ā

The four in-person meetings scheduled this month are intended for families of students currently attending the four elementary schools proposed for closureā€” Sacajawea, Stevens, Sanislo, and North Beach. A districtwide community meeting is also scheduled this month.

According to an update on the SPS website, the meetings aim to ā€œmake sure the impacted families have the chance to fully understand the recommendation, ask questions, and share ideas for how we could implement a potential closure and consolidation with care and support.ā€Ā

The November meetings are the first of two community meetings the district plans to hold for each school community whose building will potentially close.Ā

  • Sacajawea Elementary ā€“ Thursday, Nov. 7, 6-7 p.m. at Sacajawea, 9501 20th Ave. N.E.Ā Ā
  • Sanislo Elementary ā€“ Tuesday, Nov. 12, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Sanislo, located at 1812 S.W. Myrtle St.Ā
  • Stevens Elementary ā€“ Friday, Nov. 15, 6-7 p.m. at Stevens, 1242 18th Ave. E.Ā
  • North Beach Elementary ā€“ Monday, Nov. 18, 6-7 p.m. at North Beach, 9018 24th Ave. N.W.Ā

A single districtwide online meeting is scheduled for Nov. 14 fromĀ  6:30 to 7:30 p.m. A Zoom link has not yet been released. Check the SPS closures and consolidations page for updated information.

In its announcement, district officials stressed that the upcoming community meetings ā€œare not public hearings.ā€

ā€œThose will be scheduled in December,ā€ the announcement said. ā€œThese meetings are to support the individual impacted school communities.ā€Ā Ā
