Name Woodland Park Zoo’s Lion Cubs

Woodland Park Zoo is giving Washington state residents the chance to name two lion cubs. The community is invited to submit names for two of the four lion cubs through a contest running today through March 15 at zoo.org/namethecubs. The other cubs will be named internally.

The zoo is in search of Zulu or Sotho (pronounced so-toe or sue-too) names for one male cub and one female cub, in honor of a part of the Krugeri lion's native South African range. Participants must submit their proposed names online at zoo.org/namethecubs, or visit the zoo's ZooStores or Zoomazium during general zoo hours to submit names by ballot. Help the zoo name the cubs by following four simple steps:

1. Research words or names in the African languages of Zulu or Sotho. Select two names, one for him and one for her.

2. Visit zoo.org/namethecubs to submit your entry. Or, pick up a ballot at the zoo and mail to Woodland Park Zoo, ATTN: Name the Cubs, 601 N. 59th St., Seattle, WA 98103.

3. Wait to find out if you won one of two grand prizes (a private viewing with a zoo keeper, annual membership and more).

4. Tell your friends and family to #namethecubs on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram.

The four lion cubs made their first public appearance with mother, Adia, on Feb. 16. Zoo visitors have a chance to meet the cubs up close and enjoy their curious, spunky personalities from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily, weather permitting, in the lion shelter located in the award-winning African Savanna.
