Play-Well TEKnologies: LEGOS Galore

Navigating the room was just a tiny bit dangerous at the Grand Opening of the Play-Well TEKnologies Northwest Activity Center in Kirkland last weekend. There were so many kids crouched on the floor working on so many tiny LEGOS, fingers and fantastic creations were in a constant state of jeopardy. It was obviously a successful beginning for the flagship Washington Play-Well Center.

lego3e.jpgLocated just off 124th Avenue Northeast, the Center is comprised of two adjoining rooms, painted in bright colors and containing more LEGOS than you have ever seen in your entire life (more than 200,000 pieces). The Center plans to offer LEGO programs to satisfy every possible LEGO need including workshops, camps, evening programs and birthday parties for a variety of ages and interests. There are even a few Play-Well product kits available for purchase.

If you haven’t heard of them, Play-Well is already a fairly well-known business in Seattle, offering many LEGO engineering programs in local elementary schools for after school activities. Derived from the Danish word “Leg Godt,” Play-Well focuses on teaching kids engineering through play. Most of the instructors have engineering and/or teaching backgrounds and are excited about sharing their perspectives on building and creativity with kids.
