Seattle Aquarium's Lindsay Holladay Sails Nautilus

Seattle Aquarium's own Lindsay Holladay is sailing the Exploration Vessel (E/V) Nautilus during its 2016 expedition. Educators and students, will set out and explore the Cascadia Margin to locate a WWII-era wreck.

Of the 17 science educators chosen from around the world, Seattle Aquarium's very own Lindsay Holladay makes the list to sail aboard the Exploration Vessel (E/V) Nautilus during its 2016 expedition. In June, Lindsay, along with 16 other educators and 22 students, will set out and explore the Cascadia Margin to locate a WWII-era wreck and explore areas off the Washington and Oregon coast that have never before been seen by human eyes.

The Ocean Exploration Trust (OET), is a nonprofit founded by Dr. Robert Ballard in 2008 to promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education around the world. Selected applicants from 20 states and Australia will embark on this years’ expedition. Educators and students from schools, universities, after-school programs, science centers, aquariums and nonprofit organizations will join the Nautilus Corps of Exploration during this years’ sea-going expedition. The voyage runs from May through September to explore the Eastern Pacific Ocean, pushing the boundaries of STEM education and technological innovation.

Fellows, including Holladay, will engage with students and the public on the wonders of ocean exploration and share their discoveries as well as aspects of daily life aboard this years’ exploration vessel.

“I’m thrilled to be part of the team exploring our local Cascadia Margin, the geologically active and mineral-rich zone around our colliding tectonic plates. I hope my role will help bridge viewers from around the world to the cutting-edge science occurring thousands of meters below the surface,” says Holladay.

You can follow the journey and its discoveries right from home on their live, 24-hour feed at www.nautiluslive.org as Lindsay will be providing audio commentary and question and answer sessions throughout her time on the ship. In addition, the Seattle Aquarium will host a live interactive program with Lindsay on June 8th at 10:30am in celebration of World Oceans day.
