Seattle Children’s patients have a starring role in Northwest Film Forum’s 8th annual Children’s Film Festival Seattle, which runs through Feb. 3.
This year, five short films created by patients or featuring patients’ creative works have been selected to be shown at the festival. Here are links to the videos online, and the remaining show times at the festival:
- Chris Rumble’s “Stronger.” Program: “Made in Seattle” on Jan. 28 at 9 p.m., Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. and Feb. 3 at 5 p.m.
- “The Cat Immersion Project” starring Maga Barzallo Sockemtickem. Program: “Noah’s Ark” on Feb. 1 at 11 a.m. and Feb. 2 at 11 a.m.
- “The Hidden Shadows of Cancer” featuring Ruby Smith’s photography. Program: “See me Shine” on Feb. 1 at 3:30 p.m.
- “Haunting: A Head” starring Jenna Gibson. Program: “Shiver and Shake” on Jan. 31 at 9 p.m.
- “Sara Takes Her Leap into the Bone Marrow Sea” by Sara Mirabdolbaghi. Program: “Small is Powerful” on Jan. 30 at 7 p.m.
The films were all created as part of Children’s Healing Arts Program for patients, which includes the Not Now Program for young adults with cancer. The arts can be a powerful tool in helping patients and families through challenging circumstances. Children’s Healing Arts Program promotes growth, healing and provides psychosocial support by giving patients a voice in telling their stories through photography, film, music, writing and other creative arts.
The festival will also be brought to kids at the hospital as there will be a special patient jury and patients will also work with professional animators, Charlotte Blacker from England and Britta Johnson from Seattle, to make their own animated films.
