The Seattle Public Library is expanding its longtime summer reading tradition with the launch of Summer Quest, an all-ages program that hopes to keep kids, teens, and adults reading, exploring, and trying new activities throughout the summer.
The program replaces SPL’s former Summer of Learning initiative, which focused on children, and marks a new chapter in the library’s 107-year-old summer programming tradition.
Participants can pick up an activity tracker at any Seattle Public Library branch or download one online.
The goal is to complete 30 days of “Read, Do, and Go” activities by September 4, 2026. Challenges range from reading aloud to a pet or attending a library event to exploring a new local neighborhood or learning about a new topic.
Kids who sign up receive a free pass to PlayDate SEA, the indoor play space in South Lake Union. Children who complete 30 days of activities can choose a free book and enter a raffle for a pizza party for 10 at PlayDate SEA. Teens who finish can earn a certificate for five free wings at Wingstop and enter prize drawings, while adults can enter raffles for FriendShop gift cards and Kobo e-readers.
Branches across the city will also host free Summer Quest events throughout the season, including magic shows, storytelling, music and dance performances, art workshops, mindfulness programs, and other family-friendly activities.
Summer Quest runs through Sept. 4. Activity trackers are available in multiple languages, including Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese, Somali, Amharic, Tigrinya, and Oromo.
