Seattle Public Schools will adopt instructional materials to support K-5 General Music courses and will therefore be forming an adoption committee, which will take input from educators and community members in order to determine the types of instructional materials to be reviewed. The committee will then select the materials for each grade level and proceed to get board approval.
This adoption will help provide consistency in instruction at elementary schools, targeted support for teachers and schools, and allow for a better focus on professional development offerings. All adopted instructional materials will be designed to meet cultural relevance and accessibility standards and will incorporate methods for teaching all students, including those receiving special education, bilingual or advanced learning services.
The adoption committee will be made up of 12 Seattle Public Schools educators and three family/community representatives. Seattle Public Schools will accept applications through Thursday, Jan. 6. To learn more, visit www.seattleschools.org/area/curriculumalign/k5madoption_index.html.
