Barbecue is a contentious subject—it divides purists from revolutionaries and one state from another, but we can all agree that it's a delicious treat on a lazy summer day and any other time of the year you crave food that evokes memories of warm weather and kicking back.

Here are a few of our favorite BBQ spots around Seattle:

Bitterroot heads up the Northwest BBQ movement, serving smoked meats with a selection of bourbon and craft beer they say will "make any enthusiast swoon." The usual BBQ choices are available with a variety of sauces, either on a plate or as a sandwich on a Tall Grass Bakery roll. Vegetarian options include gourmet salads and sides, and a customizable mac and cheese that will satisfy diners of all ages. Their happy hour (3-6 pm) with $5 BBQ bites makes a fun afterschool treat, or you can stop by after the Ballard Sunday farmers market for one of their tasty brunch specials.

Campfire BBQ food truck can be found at locations throughout the city, serving food from a log cabin on wheels. Their brisket is some of the best in the city, and the authentic German potato salad provides a perfect counterpoint. The BBQ salmon pulls the menu back to the Northwest, and the BBQ eggplant sandwich provides a hearty meat-free alternative.

Drunky's Two Shoe BBQ, located between Fremont and Ballard, offers a killer pork belly sandwich, some hot hot links, and all the usual BBQ favorites. Kids love the whimsical décor, and the menu is versatile enough for the whole family to enjoy. Sauces are served on the side, so you can customize between mild, spicy or "doom." Even better, if you order the family-style dinner, kids under 3 eat free.
