‘Snow Whyte & the Seven’ is Seattle’s Teen Summer Musical

Local youth cast will perform an adaptation of the classic tale Aug. 23-25 at Benaroya Hall.

A beloved fairy tale gets a whole new spin when “Snow Whyte & the Seven” takes the stage at Benaroya Hall.

This year’s installment of the popular Teen Summer Musical features Seattle youths taking the familiar story to Africa and telling it with soulful music, a little mayhem ā€” and a meaningful message.

The Teen Summer Musical has been a summer staple in Seattle for more than 25 years. According to the city, it is a chance for local teens (mostly kids of color) to perform in a musical theater production that reflects their culture and community while learning the disciplines of stage. The cast of more than 70 works essentially full time for 10 weeks, and participants earn a stipend. In addition to dance and vocal training, there is hands-on work on the technical aspects of theater such as costume, lighting and set design.

Production of “Snow Whyte and the Seven” is managed by Acts On Stage, a Black-owned and -operated community theater company launched in July 2020.
