Seattle’s Child is proud to partner with the state Department of Children, Youth and Families Strengthening Families Washington to honor outstanding caregivers doing important work on behalf of children.
All month long, we’ll introduce you to Unsung Heroes from around the state: biological parents, grandparents, foster and adoptive parents. Some volunteer at local schools; some have started nonprofits; some mentor others in their communities. Enjoy their stories.
Brittany Clap, Vancouver
Brittany Clapp is a foster parent serving the Clark and Cowlitz area, not only with placement and adoption but also with her nonprofit work with Cloth+Foster.
She works closely with Bridge the Gap to provide an amazing clothing closet for youth entering care or changing placement. She makes the drive to the Vancouver DCYF office and to the Kelso/Longview area to provide foster parents and kinship caregivers with clothing, fun surprises for foster youth and support.
She frequently supports foster parents in tackling their burnout and frustration with the system by being a kind, caring ear and helping to point them to department workers who can help them with specific concerns and questions.
Brittany and her entire family have such big, amazing hearts. Her oldest daughter frequently takes time to prepare gift bags for caregivers, her sons create beautiful crafts to raise funds for foster youth, and her husband is right there running around doing whatever tasks need to be accomplished. On top of this, they foster kids from birth to teens. Brittany is an asset to our foster community and foster youth.
