Every day in King County, more than 5,000 calls are made to 911. Only half of these calls are for actual emergencies.
As part of National 911 Education Month in April, King County’s E-911 Program Office is launching a campaign to remind parents and caregivers to teach their children how to call 911 in an emergency. The central spokesperson is a loveable and approachable character, Emery the Emergency Penguin.
During the month of April, parents and caregivers are encouraged to celebrate Emery’s birthday by teaching their kids the how, when and where of dialing 911. To make it easy, a variety of free downloadable resources are available including a 911 emergency song, an educational coloring book (with pictures of what is an emergency and what isn’t), and a smartphone 911 practice page.
