University Book Store just released the 2011 recipients of the “Ubie Awards,” which are given to the staff’s favorite picture book and children’s/young adult novel of the year. The winners are The Tree House by Marijie and Ronald Tolman and Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly.
The Tree House tells the story of polar bear who rides a whale to a tree rising out of the water, which is a place of magical wonder. In Revolution, Donnelly weaves two girls’ stories into one unforgettable account of life, loss and enduring love.
Created in 2004, the Ubies were inspired by the American Library Association’s annual book awards: The Newbery Medal, for the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children, and the Caldecott Medal, for the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children.
